Disability benefits pose a trap for the under-25s in Ireland - West
Another Irish Gov attempt to cut benefits to disabled people
A disabled woman challenges the 'status quo' in Ireland. This blog was started to highlight inequality, abuse and injustice in the lives of disabled people. The wooden spoon was given to me when I graduated (PhD) as I'm known to 'stir up' and get things done. I'm still stirring from my wheelchair...Justice for disabled people demands we 'stir-up' complacency, injustice, inequality lack of services, and scapegoating . Disabled people deserve rights not charity! "Nothing about me without me!"

This is a load of hogwash. Not every person with a disability can work. My teenage son can't read write or speak. He is doubly incontinent and the older he gets the more expensive his needs are. A payment of just 100 euro a week would not cover his basic needs let alone getting him out of the house to activities he might enjoy. The kids with disabilities who do want to study and are capable of it often have a lot of extra expense getting to and from college . My older boy was on disability allowance when he was ill with cancer. He got off of it and back to work once he was able . The BIGGEST obstacle to work for people with disabilities or their carers who would like to try to work outside caring for a few hours is the application process and wait times to get allowances if you can't work and have to go to benefits. People even if they could and were able to work are afraid of giving up an allowance that it may take you 9 months to get back if not longer if you need it.
